Emma is tuned in

Listening to the customer and teamwork are central to Emma Zeng’s success as a Project Coordinator at Guli Security Products in China.

“It’s vital to focus on the customer’s requirements,” Emma says. “Always understand the effective product innovation process and listen to the voice of customer before commencing product development.”

At the product development stage, Emma says that a lot of problems can be solved through teamwork. “Brainstorming is the most practical way to gather ideas,” she says.

An example of these ideas in action was when Emma worked with a colleague to improve the quality of an aluminum stay. “We looked carefully into the process of making the product, including consulting with the aluminum suppliers to look into the manufacturing process of the raw material and its properties,” she says. “By working together we figured out that the solution was setting the proper heat treatment parameter to get the process under control and ensure quality stability.” 

Emma joined ASSA ABLOY as a graduate trainee two years after gaining a master’s degree in material science and technology. For the last year she’s been working in the Guli VA/VE team.

“It’s an incredible working experience for me,” she says. “I learnt to set the target and scope of a project, get the timing and cost under control, how to communicate with the external and internal teams, and how to motivate team members.”
