A great place to be

The profit center Jeff Duke manages was recognized as the most improved profit center within the Architectural Hardware Group in North America. No wonder he’s proud of it.

“I really enjoy what I do,” he says of his work with Norton Door Controls, based in Monroe, North Carolina, the US. He also thinks his colleagues are pretty good, too.
“In my short time here I have learned there are a lot of talented people at Norton and within ASSA ABLOY.

“As a staff we work extremely hard to foster an atmosphere where our associates are excited about working in a safe and enjoyable, but productive, environment.”

Jeff is Profit Center Manager for all aluminum surface closers, including the 1600, 1700 and 1900 series of aluminum storefront closers, and the 7000 and 8000 series of architectural and institutional closers. He has responsibility for overall operational performance.

Managing a variety of areas brings challenges, but these are exactly what he thrives on.
“The challenges of trying to get better each day and continually improve both the product and various manufacturing processes – are what keep my job interesting.”

However, some challenges have their downside, especially when work moves to low-cost countries.
“I hate seeing work leave the factory,” he says, but adds that he understands he has to do what is best for the long-term survival of the company.

He says planning is critical for a smooth transition when work leaves a factory and they are often able to train those losing their jobs for new or different jobs in the factory.
