Learning never stops for Judy

Constantly learning and keeping abreast of the latest technological developments are crucial to Judy Carten’s work as senior software engineer at ASSA ABLOY in the USA.

“Technology at work is a constant, continued learning for us,” Judy says. “People are committed to get the job done. Everything is a learning experience.

“I believe that the right tools are important to keeping the team happy and productive. We have computers with plenty of RAM and hard disk space.”

As technical lead on the AHG Electro-Mechanic team, Judy writes and develops software code, and addresses any issues or bugs. She also reports the project status to her managers.

“I am building, testing and delivering high quality software for our customer,” Judy says.

This might sound like a largely solitary job, but in fact Judy thrives on teamwork and cooperation.
“Learning from others is the best aspect of working here,” she says. “We have so many talented people. I am in a part of a supportive management team committed to making the project successful. We care about each other’s work, the quality of the work and working together as team.”

Looking ahead, Judy is keen to work on ASSA ABLOY’s Access Platform project and expand it to other security products.
“It is for locksets using the common protocol and published standard for all ASSA ABLOY doors,” Judy says. “It is the future for middleware.”
