Marcis on the lookout for sales
Marcis Mazias, an Area Manager at ASSA ABLOY AS Baltic in Latvia, knows that staying alert is the key to finding new opportunities for business.
Marcis uses a Latvian proverb – “a bump in the road can overturn a cart” – to explain how even the smallest sales possibility, even if it seems insignificant, can have a real impact on business.
“Based on my experience, I have been taught to always keep my eyes open, because sales possibilities can come from anywhere, even from where you least expect,” he says.
Marcis is responsible for all ASSA ABLOY Baltic activities in Latvia including new project development, existing customer “pushing and pulling,” and representing ASSA ABLOY interests on a whole in the area.
On a regular day, he starts by catching up on the latest news from customers and suppliers. He then responds to inquiries and ensures that all the daily office needs are met. Then he meets with architects or construction site developers before lunch, before returning to the office in the afternoon.
It is the versatility that he enjoys most about his role. He says: “Sometimes, I am purely a salesperson, sometimes I act as a factory representative. Other times, I work to create demand in the market, which is challenging but interesting.”
He says that, if he could, he would improve processes by creating a set of sales standards to cover both the sales team and the production units, because sales and production are often separated when they should go hand-in-hand.
