Intelligent doors give IT specialists more freedom and control
With 300 employees spread through Sweden, IT consultants, Know IT needed a flexible and intelligent access solution. The Hi-O system was a logical choice as it integrated easily with their existing alarm and access control equipment.
Client customer
When IT-specialists, Know IT needed a locking solution for their new offices in Stockholm, they choose one of their clients who just happen to be the world’s leading lock company.
Assa AB led the project and suggested the Hi-O system. Hi-O, which is also known as the smart door, is an entrance solution that enables connected devices to exchange and share encrypted information.
The project, which began in June 2005, included a smart door for three entrances: the main entrance, an emergency exit and a conference room.
Access control
Know IT needed to limit access to their offices while administering rights down to the individual level. The security solution they would choose needed to be easily managed as and able to integrate into existing access and alarm systems.
For Assa AB, the biggest challenge was a tight schedule. In practice this meant that the Hi-O installation had to go quickly and smoothly to meet Know IT’s move-in date.
The smart door
The core of the Hi-O concept is an information data bus, connecting all the door devices to each other instead of a central door controller. The intelligence is built into each and every device instead of centralized in one dedicated logic unit.
With Hi-O, door locks, card readers and other door hardware connect to the same data-bus making installation quick and easy. The main benefit for Know IT was that the Hi-O system easily connected to their access control system and the intruder alarm system.
With the Hi-O solution it’s easy to add hardware at a later stage, such as extra locks or an automatic door opener.
